Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi received by President Gokhool at State House

The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Dharambeer Gokhool, warmly received, at the State House in Réduit, today, the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Shri Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day State Visit to Mauritius.

The courtesy call, held in the Blue Room of the State House, began with the presentation of the Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cards to the President and Mrs Gokhool by Prime Minister Modi in a symbolic gesture of the strong ties between the two nations. This was followed by the traditional exchange of gifts between the two Leaders.

The courtesy call lasted for about 30 minutes, with the two leaders discussing various issues, before posing for an official souvenir photograph and the signing of the Visitor’s Book by the Indian Prime Minister. After the courtesy call, President Gokhool hosted a luncheon in honour of the visiting dignitary.

Addressing the gathering, the Indian Prime Minister expressed his deep gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to him. “I am immensely happy to be part of the National Day celebrations of Mauritius; this gathering is a reflection of the vibrant culture and the close historical ties shared between our two nations,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi then raised a toast to President Gokhool’s good health and the continued prosperity, progress and welfare of the Mauritian people. He also reaffirmed India’s steadfast commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Mauritius.

Prime Minister Modi, accompanied by President Gokhool and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, also toured the Ayurvedic Garden at the State House. Spread across 3,400 square meters, the garden features 60 varieties of medicinal Ayurvedic plants. It stands as a lasting symbol of the deep-rooted friendship and cultural heritage shared between Mauritius and India.
